(See BBC Vision Statement)
This position is funded by Grace Munro’s bequest. It will stand as an annual consultancy role, refreshed as the need presents itself.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reporting to: Church Senior Pastor
Hours: To be decided upon in conversation with the applicant.*
(*Salary per hour including superannuation and benefits to be decided by Diaconate with recommendations from Church Treasurer.)
Location: Based at the BBC office, although out-of-office consulting is anticipated
Purpose of the position
This position is to help develop leaders within BBC. S/he will help each church leader and ministry leader – under the guidance of the senior pastor – to have a better understanding of themselves, church ministries and their team members, so that the right person is placed in the right ministry with the right team, in order for each of them to grow and flourish in their knowledge and commitment to follow Jesus.
Responsibilities and duties
Responsibility 1 – to increase each leader’s understanding of their own ministry identity, gifts and personality, helping them to answer questions such as:
- How can I contribute to BBC church vision 2027?
- What is my ministry gift and how can I further develop it?
- What ministry or alternative ministry could suit me best?
- What do others in my ministry team expect of me?
- What is my next step in personal development to further grow in Christ?
- How can I balance/reconcile my ministry commitment with my personal/family life?
- How can I give and receive feedback?
This is achieved by using appropriate assessments such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Team Dimensions Profile (TDP), Strengths Finder, 5 Voices, and/or Workplace Personality Inventory (WPI) for example. Additionally, group sessions will accompany the taking of such assessments, as well as a face-to-face interview with appropriate persons involved.
A written report using a clear and consistent template will be provided to each leader one week after their interview, and to the church leadership team at its monthly meeting.
• All current deacons to be interviewed once as the priority group.
• Current ministry leaders should be interviewed next.
• Potential ministry leaders can be included thereafter.
Responsibility 2 – to write Position Description (PD) and Ministry Biography (MB) for each current church ministry.
This is achieved concurrently with interviewing the current ministry leaders and in consultation with the senior pastor in light of the church history. A PD and MB for each deacon will be completed as the priority. The remaining PDs and MBs should be produced thereafter.
